LOKA SEVA TRUST is a charitable organization started with an aim of ‘Serving Society’
Loka Seva Trust works on the premise that the resources are already available to fulfill every individual’s basic needs. However, it is the unequal distribution that divides the society into the privileged and under- privileged. The organization tirelessly works to bridge this divides through its various programs such as :

  1. Providing Food to the needy
  2. Re-distribution of clothes and re-usable items
  3. Care and Education for children
  4. Providing medicines for the needy

HOW WE PROCESS DONATIONS

At our organization, we ensure that every donated item is utilized effectively to maximize its impact

Our donation sorting process is divided into three main categories:

1. Donate

  • Category Division : Upon arrival, donations are first categorized based on their type, such as clothing, furniture, electronics, toys, books, and household items.
  • Beneficiary Fit : Items that align with the needs and wishlists of our beneficiaries or can be used in underserved communities around Bangalore are selected for direct donation. This ensures that the donations effectively support those in need and enhance their quality of life.

2.Refurbish or Recycle

  • Condition Assessment : Items that require minor repairs or refurbishment are placed in this pile. These might include furniture that needs slight fixing or electronics that need cleaning and testing.
  • Processing : We collaborate with third-party partners specialized in refurbishment and recycling to handle these items. This ensures that items are either restored to good condition for future use or recycled responsibly to minimize environmental impact.

3.Sold

  • Good Condition but Not Donatable : Items that are in good condition but do not fit the current needs of our communities are moved to the sale category. This can happen during surges of specific items, such as bulky sofa sets that are too large for the families we support or specialized western clothing and electronics that aren’t required by the communities.
  • Sales and Impact : These items are sold at nominal prices in our thrift stores. The proceeds from these sales are funneled back into supporting various impact initiatives, allowing us to fund more programs and extend our reach within the community.

Why This Matters

By categorizing donations into Donate, Refurbish or Recycle, and Sold, we ensure that each item is handled in the most beneficial way possible. This structured approach helps us:

  • Maximize Impact: Direct donations meet immediate needs, while refurbished items extend their usability, and sales support our ongoing initiatives.
  • Reduce Waste: Responsible recycling minimizes environmental harm, and selling unused items ensures they are repurposed rather than discarded.
  • Support Sustainability: This process promotes a circular economy, where goods are reused and recycled, reducing the need for new resources and supporting sustainable community growth.
